The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: TRAINSTATION Pt. 1

One of the highlights of my art career was working on the Narnia films. It was my first experience working on a major film and director Andrew Adamson might well have been the best creative boss I've ever experienced. Being hired was simply serendipity, and the work lasted for almost five years. And I got to travel to New Zealand and Prague as an added perk.

At the time I was very imfluenced by the work of illustrator Noel Sickles and was very much emulating his sparse black and white style. Unlike the finished and polished drawings in comics, storyboards what you needed for storyboards was simplicity and clarity and the work had to be done quickly...all things that I was working with this style.

Below is one of the  better  sections of the storyboarding that I did. With the outbreak of WWII , Peter, Susan, Edwin and Lucy as leaving a bombed ravaged London to the safe English countryside.

Pan down statue of Nelson to Trafalgar Square

As the crowd thins we see the Penensie family making their way through the crowd.

Interior of Train station filled with hundreds of children being evacuated from London to the safety of the countryside.

Mom begins a tearful goodbye to the children, giving them last minute advice.

Children are all given containers to be used as gas masks as a precaution.

Next time the loading of the train continue as the family makes their tearful goodby.
