MACBETH PT. 2

MACBETH PT. 2

This was a job I did for Boy's Life Magazine several years back...and was an interesting one from start to finish. It was great to be  collaborating with  Shakespeare...but as I learned, not everything thinks he can't be "improved" upon. More on that story in an upcoming Vozwords post, our sister blog. I'll also be posting as much of the original pencil, thumbnail, color and black and white originals in that blog. One of the real pleasures of this job was having my old friend John Ott handling the color. (You can see at the bottom a sample of what I would give him as a guide.)

Below are some examples of the planning that went into the job in the form of character designs, thumbnails, pencils, the finished ink artwork, and my color roughs. More on that in an upcoming Vozwords.

All Roads Lead to Rome PT. 8

Once more return to the faux Hollywood of the thirties, in this new Retrowood tale, All Roads Lead to Rome.  There are elements of the story that I swiped from Dashiel Hammett that I felt guilty about, until I saw the same story points in at least a half a dozen other films from the era. See how many Hollywood legends you can recognize and just remember the Retrowood motto: Based on false stories and innuendo.

Mike has been penciling in a new Retrowood story that will be available in 2018! Below, are some preview pages from the new story.

Below are several paintings Mike has done, reflecting the era portrayed in Retrowood
